Francis + Benedict exists to empower and equip skilled Togolese seamstresses by providing them with dignified and sustainable employment. Skirts made for others. Enjoyed by us. For the good of many. I mean if you aren’t in love with what they are doing, wait until you see their skirts, I’m sure you’ll change your mind!
Are you really an artist if you only cater to one type?
Working in an industry that seems to be so diverse I can’t tell you how many times I’ve come across a photographer, makeup artist, or hair stylist that looks at me and gets nervous because they don’t know how to use their “art” with my brown skin, my black girl hair, or these black girl lips. Guess it’s not as diverse as I thought. Im not here to talk about how hard it is to be a black woman in the industry, I’ll save that for another time.
If you’ve experienced it then you know. This goes for all ethnic groups. To be the only one not getting your hair done because they like it the way it is. At the end of the day this could be true but there are to many different styles that can be done to hair like mine instead of out in an afro. Its annoying. It makes you feel like you really aren’t apart of the process if you aren’t getting it styled like everyone else.
Why should I be the only one brining my foundation to a shoot? A few things I bring due to allergies but if you don’t have my foundation color in your kit or anything darker then me what does that say about you? How is it that your online port is only one certain group of people and no one else’s. You do know there are other people in the world besides your type right? Brown girls have different undertones just like everyone else so why is it that you only have one undertone for my skin? Why don’t you have a concealer for my skin either? Let me guess because I don’t need it. It’s really not fair.
Its not just white artisans with this problem but it seems to be more common with them. You probably think Im slandering you.. Im not. I’m just trying to tell you how it really is. Even though it is more rare, I have met a handful of Blacks, Asian, Hispanics and so on that only cater to one type. I get it from the aspect of, enough people don’t know how to cater to me, so why should I cater to them? WHY NOT? Why not take the time to become more diverse in your skill? Im pretty sure money doesn’t see color.
For me as a chef, I try to be as diverse as I can by being able to cater to all eating styles as I like to call them. I can honestly say the few styles I’m having problems with is raw eating styles and catering to vegans. So because of that, should I just ignore them? No because they need love to. They’re styles that I haven’t practiced a lot, so instead of turning them down, I let them know that I am still teaching myself how to properly cook for them and give them a discounted rate so that they will allow me to practice, so I can become more diverse.
I mean people it’s really just that simple.
Reach out to the Asian girl so you can practice eyeshadow on her since her lid type isn’t as common on set. Reach out to the girl or guy with kinks and coils so you can learn how to work with it instead of turning them away, or saying you like how it is at a shoot. Reach out to the person with the pale or deep complexion, they like to wear makeup to ya know.
Do you think you can do that? If so… Tag, you’re it.
Until Next Time
Well until summer semester that is! The break I took from blogging was necessary for me to take so I wouldn’t have to worry about trying to make sure my readers have something to read. I ended my last post with P R I O R I T I E S and school is my number 1.
I did a lot while I was away, from being featured on a blog to working with U.S Foods Fanatics Live, making my own pizza and a few other things. Find out more tomorrow at noon!
Until Next Time
Sorry for not having a post for the last few days I did a lot of studying this weekend because its crunch time at school and I didn’t have time to update for the week. I hope to have everything updated for the next two weeks starting Sunday!
Until Next Time
Did you miss me?
LONG STORY SHORT when I first created venitaaspen.com I didn’t know I should’ve created it using wordpress.org instead of wordpress.com. WordPress.org offers way more options then wordpress.com. Knowing that I could be using a better site while I was using my old one was not very motivating. So I just stopped blogging.
Instead of paying some one to do everything I figured it out myself and I had someone create this theme specifically for me. It’s clean, user friendly, and mobile friendly. I wanted my readers to take venitaaspen.com with them everywhere they went.
Before I stopped blogging I received a number of emails to do more fashion related post. So my first 4-5 post will mainly be about fashion! Also check out the links at the top to find out more about what I do! When it comes to Culinary Arts on my blog I will just post that in the lifestyle category instead of giving it its own page. I figured that would be easiest right now since I am not in the kitchen again until next semester. Most food post that I upload will be based off of “at home” cooking.
I will have post everyday at high noon!
With my new launch I hope to re capture all of my readers and gain some new ones!
