Thanksgiving is rolling around the corner and that means all of us are pulling out our best chef’s kiss recipes that we break out every Fall. This holiday season, I felt like trying a little something new with a Thanksgiving-inspired appetizer and dessert made with delicious, affordable ingredients entirely from Walmart. Appetizers and desserts may not usually be the first thing to come to mind when planning your Thanksgiving feast, but they’re the start and finish of your beautiful meal, so arguably the most important!

Walmart had amazing organic pre-cut sweet potato cubes (so convenient!) that inspired me for my dishes. So, for my Thanksgiving appetizers, I decided to make savory sweet potato bites with hot Italian sausage, parmesan cheese, and spinach. It’s just enough protein to keep morale high during a long day in the kitchen and will keep you in that happy Thanksgiving mood. For dessert, I decided the perfect complement to my savory sweet potato bites would be a sweet, sweet potato dessert with goat cheese, pear, and a little cinnamon sugar. It did not disappoint!
I think one of the most special things about holidays such as Thanksgiving is that everyone gets to put their own personal spin on holiday classics. I grabbed all the ingredients for both dishes at my local Walmart for an amazing price, and I was really impressed with how great the final dishes looked – and tasted!
Although Thanksgiving may look a little different this year, that doesn’t mean we don’t still have a whole lot to be thankful for. Personally, I’m thankful for healthy friends and family, another trip around the sun, and the ability to celebrate one of my favorite holidays even from a distance. Thankfully, video chats such as Zoom make it possible to celebrate the holidays even if it’s not all gathered around the same table. Although this may be a different kind of celebration, it makes me feel even more grateful to have the opportunity to share the holidays with family.
Even if it has to be virtual this year!

For my own celebration, I couldn’t help but put my own Charleston flare on the Thanksgiving table. If you’ve ever been to Charleston, you know we love our color. Even in the Fall, it’s fun to keep things bright and cheery with pops of color, whether it be through your dinnerware, flowers as your centerpiece, or the food itself! Thankfully, my entire table was made possible by Walmart. These bright colors are the perfect combination for putting yourself in a celebratory mood, and that’s what the holidays are all about. If you think you want to try your own Thanksgiving appetizer and dessert this year, here is my recipe for the savory sweet potato bites.

Savory Sweet Potato Bites: Makes 12
What you’ll need:
1/2 bag Great Value Sweet Potatoe Cubes
1 Bag Great Value Organic Spinach
2-3 Great Value Hot Italian Sausage
1 Cup Great Value Egg Whites
1/2 cup Great Value Parmesan Cheese
Cupcake Pan
How To:
Preheat oven to 350
Roughly dice or chop your sweet potato cubes. Once that’s done, add in your egg whites, spinach, parmesan cheese and mix it together. Brown your Italian sausage in a skillet on medium for about 7-10 mins. After you’ve browned the sausage add it to your egg white mixture. Spray your cupcake pan evenly with a nonstick spray prior to adding your mixture in. Once you’ve added your mixture into the cupcake pan, put the pan in the oven for 12-15 mins.
Once you take the sweet potato bites out of the oven, allow them to cool for 5-7 mins before serving.
Enjoy!
