Fall Capsule Wardrobe

September 28, 2023

The best time of the year has finally arrived! While it’s still in the 70’s in Charleston, I’m definitely dreaming up fall outfits and getting ready for sweater weather. The start of a new season always has me feeling super inspired with fashion so I wanted to share some of my fall staples that help to build the perfect capsule wardrobe! These are pieces that can be mixed and matched together dozens of different ways but then also act as a great canvas for more statement pieces.

  1. Neutral blazer: I prefer a boyfriend fit because it feels more chic and modern and also makes layering underneath easier.
  2. Pearl + gold earrings: any small earrings that involve pearl, gold or the both together instantly polish any outfit.
  3. White button-down: a classic for every season, really! It’s basically like a canvas for any outfit and perfect for layering.
  4. Lady jacket: the jacket of the year! while this jacket is trending right now, I think the style is timeless. I like a more structured material like wool or boucle/tweed!
  5. Navy and white stripe crewneck sweater: I love this for transitional weather as you can also throw it over your shoulders to add a nice accessory to your look but put on once you get chilly. I also love a striped turtleneck but I think a crewneck is a bit more versatile for layering.
  6. Blue straight leg jeans: there are so many great jean styles out there but I find that straight legs are the most basic and versatile! They don’t feel too casual and they can go with so many types of shoes.
  7. White sneakers: another staple thats perfect for every season (except maybe winter depending where you live). everyone needs a pair of comfy go-to white sneakers!
  8. Ankle booties: these go easily with any type of pant! I love a suede ankle boot but if you wan’t them to be easy to dress up, go with a leather option!
  9. Neutral two-piece set: These are so perfect for running errands, working from home or a casual brunch. They’re also quite versatile because you can break them up and wear the sweater and pants separately!
  10. Black and white tight turtleneck: this is two items because I can’t choose between black and white — they’re both equally important to have! They are the ultimate layering pieces.
  11. Leather tall boot: so chic for making skirts and dresses more weather appropriate! I would go with a low heel to make them more versatile.
  12. Leather crossbody bag: I think a medium size with a sleek and simple style is perfect so it can easily be dressed up or down!
  13. Trouser pant: trousers are having such a moment! Traditionally, they were only worn for work but now so many people are having fun dressing them down with sneakers and chunky knits or dressing them up for night time with heels and a going out top!
  14. Midi slip dress: Can be easily dressed up with heels or dressed down with sneakers. You can also make it look like a skirt by throwing a chunky cardigan on top!
