I know that some people swear by setting intentions and making resolutions at the start of each new year and trust me I’ve tried it but after a while I’ve come to the realization that it just doesn’t work for me. After looking into it a little bit, there are tons of articles about why they don’t really work for a lot of people so I thought I’d share some from one of my favorites for anyone else who feels the same!
4 Reasons Why New Year’s Resolutions Fail
- Reason #1: Your resolution is half-hearted.
- Reason #2: Your resolution is something you “should” be doing not something you actually “want” to be doing
- Reason #3: The new year has given you a “fresh-start” mentality (that’s fleeting).
- Reason Number 4: You’re goal-setting without giving enough thought to your goal or proper planning.
At the end of the day, resolutions are really just goals but few people treat them that way which is why they usually don’t work. That’s why I’ve been looking into setting a theme for the year. A theme is a word or phrase that’s intentionally set to guide you throughout the year ahead like: balance, joy, connection. etc. and then you factor that into your major decisions throughout the year.
I’m excited to give it a try and would LOVE to hear what y’alls thoughts are on all of this!
