Why I’m Choosing Community Supported Grocery Post Covid | Lowcountry Street Grocery

May 18, 2020

The silver lining to this pandemic is the push that has been created to support small businesses. Yea, we encouraged them all before, but I don’t think the support has ever been more robust. While hoping to join alongside others in support, I decided to choose an option that would be most beneficial to me, GROCERIES.

Lowcountry Street Grocery (LSG), an idea birthed by Lindsey, is a mission-driven, mobile farmers market designed to make food affordable AND accessible. I don’t remember how I came across LSG, but I know I was thrilled when I did almost three years ago now. Some areas of the city have become food deserts, which makes the work Lindsey and his crew do very vital. They have set up a system that allows individuals who are receiving government assistance to use their EBT to purchase their groceries.

LSG has a program called Community Supported Grocery (CSG) that will deliver groceries to your home every week for $36/ week for the single bundle. All of the produce, meats, cheeses, and milk are all grown/ made here in South Carolina. There is a list of add ons that you can also choose from each week to spice things up a bit! I always select extra strawberries + blue cheese for salads. CSG has an option of letting you sponsor a bundle for someone in need of one, or help cover the cost of the “pay what you can bundle” for those who may not be able to pay full price.

A single bundle from CSG!

As you would imagine, LSG received an influx of customers due to COVID. A boom like the one they’ve received is a boom hoped for by any business owner. Continuing to support small businesses like this one and others will allow them to survive post-COVID when lives go back to “normal” and help us restructure our community into to fully being community-driven.

Like with most things that I love, I’m sure I can continue to ramble on about this topic and why it’s essential to support those who are making an ACTUAL difference in the community like Lindsey and his team, but I’ll let you check out their website/Instagram for yourself!
